Meet the local Boston #CreatHer behind the Bamboo Earrings art installation celebrating Black & Latina culture.
Ja'Hari Ortega (@ja_hari713) says her love for jewelry inspired 'Big Hoops To Fill', along with the opportunity to hold space for childhood memories.
The journey for the large-scale sculpture that doubles as interactive swings has been in the making for 3 years. Big, bold and gold, the creative earring swing now sits proudly at Rose Kennedy Greenway Park, paying homage to women of color and cultural traditions.
“The fact that we deserve rest, we deserve play, we don’t always need to be these strong independent Black women in public spaces, we can also be known as like joyous, happy women with beautiful relationships with our families and friends as well,” Ortega shared with Boston 25 News.
Honoring community, 'Big Hoops To Fill' was highlighted this past Thursday at a public event called "The Cookout" which celebrated the art and the artist with a meet and greet. If you’re on the upper end of the map, swing by the Boston park to grab an insta-worthy photo on the swings to represent for #Her.
