Behind HER Brand

“Alot of us are not thriving, a lot of us are surviving –

Finding your joy is about doing the work, staying conscience about it and remembering that you create your reality. There are a lot of things that you can’t control, but there are some things you can, and it’s about focusing on that.” ~Tangia Seward

For Tangia, hugging a black woman is more than just a physical embrace. As a former hairstylist and salon owner, she found her connection to women through conversation and being an ear. Something as simple as giving or receiving a compliment can be therapeutic or change the trajectory of your day. She says a hug is an unspoken language between women, that speaks volumes of support and empowerment. It was that embrace that she decided to define, and Black Girl Hug was born.

“My goal for every black woman is to do the work ourselves, bring other people in and we can start healing as a collective”

Black Girl Hug promotes mental health and wellness amongst Black Women, offering creative ways to care for #Her. What started as an apparel line quickly evolved into a movement in the form of a ‘Hug’ known by its community of women as sisterhood. BGH is now a platform serving as a safe space for women to heal on their unique journeys and uplift one another along the way. In addition to a traveling self-care retreat, BGH offers affirmation apparel and The Black Girl Hug Experience Card Game designed to host meaningful conversation amongst women. Because as Tangia would say….

“Only We Know Us, Like Us”
